Oxford's St Giles' Fair has continued its 70-year tradition of holding a special blessing service on a fairground ride. The service, which includes hymns and prayer, took place on a Sky Flyer ride operated by Joey Noyce.
The tradition began in the 1950s when Noyce's grandparents, who were involved with the fair, decided to hold a church service on their ride. The Noyce family's involvement in the fair spans generations.
City Rector the Reverend Anthony Buckley delivered an address during the service, which prayed for the city, the fair, and its attendees. Following the service, which concluded with the National Anthem, Reverend Buckley rode the Sky Flyer alongside Lord Mayor Chewe Munkonge. Joey Noyce also offered a one-time free ride before the fair's official opening.
