Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has been handed a six-month road ban after being convicted of two driving offences in quick succession. The 51-year-old was caught speeding twice, once in a Range Rover and once in a Mercedes.
The first incident occurred on the evening of 3 March, when Scholes's Range Rover was caught speeding on the A649 Halifax Road near Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire. He was subsequently banned from driving for six months at Bradford Magistrates' Court on 12 August.
The second offence involved his Mercedes breaking the speed limit on the A670 Mossley Road near Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, on the morning of 14 November last year. For this, he received six penalty points on his licence at Manchester Magistrates' Court on 13 August. Total fines, costs, and court fees for both cases amounted to £1,472.
Court documents indicate that Scholes, who was prosecuted in private hearings, did not enter pleas for either charge and was convicted in his absence. Police confirmed he replied to a notice of intended prosecution for the first offence, acknowledging he was the driver. He was deemed a "totter" due to existing penalty points, meaning he was ineligible for a speed awareness course and faced an automatic ban.
