Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has been appointed as the new head coach of the Senegal national team. The 50-year-old takes the reins after leaving his role at Genoa last November.
Vieira steps into the position following the dismissal of Pape Thiaw, who was removed after Senegal's defeat to Belgium in the round of 32 at the recent World Cup. The Senegal national team confirmed the appointment via a statement on their X account, which read: "Mr Patrick Vieira is the new coach of the Senegalese national A team."
The statement added that the official presentation date and further installation steps will be announced later. Vieira's previous managerial roles include spells at Nice, New York City, Crystal Palace, Strasbourg, and Genoa.
