A coroner in Pennsylvania has announced the death of a 40-year-old woman associated with the state’s ongoing measles outbreak. This death appears to be the third in the US state's current outbreak.
The woman died on Saturday. Two previous deaths in the state were infant children, occurring in August. One infant was born with a genetic defect, making her vulnerable to infection, while the second infant died of a ruptured spleen after being infected with measles.
Jason Stiver, Jefferson County chief deputy coroner, stated that measles can lead to severe complications at any age. He encouraged residents to stay informed and follow public health guidance.
As of last week, Pennsylvania had nearly 700 measles cases across 37 counties, with the outbreak heavily concentrated in Lancaster and Mifflin counties.
