The mother of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has filed for temporary custody of his three children. This follows Hilton's hospitalisation last week after he experienced a mental health crisis at his south Florida home.

Court documents filed in Miami-Dade county indicate that the request for custody was made by Hilton's 48-year-old mother. Natalie F Guerra-Valdes, an attorney representing Hilton's mother, stated that the family's main concern is to protect the children and ensure their safety.

Hilton's family confirmed on Saturday that he remained hospitalised in serious condition and had been stabilised, though his injuries would require surgery. His family also stated that his three children, niece, and sister were inside the home minutes before a now-deleted TikTok live stream began, which appeared to show him harming himself.

The Miami-Dade sheriff’s office confirmed that deputies responded to multiple calls regarding an individual livestreaming acts of self-harm. Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, was confirmed by the sheriff's office to have been "Baker-Acted," a term in Florida for laws allowing temporary involuntary psychiatric evaluation during a mental health crisis.
