Longtime Apple executive Phil Schiller has reportedly stepped down from his position as the head of the App Store. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Schiller's decision was partly motivated by a desire to dedicate more time to his family and philanthropic activities.
Gurman also reports that Schiller's departure was influenced by a differing view on the App Store's future strategy. New CEO John Ternus and services chief Eddy Cue are reportedly seeking to enhance App Store margins and generate more recurring revenue.
According to Gurman, Schiller believed that pursuing increased profits from the App Store would likely escalate existing conflicts with governments and developers. He reportedly chose to step down to avoid involvement in this strategic direction, though no major dispute over the strategy was reported.
