Kalvin Phillips is reportedly on the brink of his fourth loan move away from Manchester City, with the midfielder set to join Sheffield United for a second successive season. This development comes as Elliot Anderson recently completed a £116m transfer to Manchester City from Nottingham Forest.
Phillips initially joined City in 2022 on a six-year deal from Leeds United for £45m. His time at the Etihad has been challenging, marked by an injury-hit start and public criticism from then-manager Pep Guardiola regarding his fitness.
After just one Premier League substitute appearance for City, Phillips was sidelined for almost three months with a shoulder injury. Upon his return, Guardiola publicly accused him of being "overweight" and not fit enough to train or play, comments Phillips later said left him feeling "frustrated."
Anderson, who is the second most expensive British player of all time, faces a different landscape at City. The club is entering a period of transition following Guardiola's departure and the appointment of Enzo Maresca as his successor, alongside the exits of several long-serving players.
