Photographer Pete Goding has completed his 20th Tour de France, reflecting on his two decades covering the event. His first Tour coincided with the beginning of Lance Armstrong's reputation decline.
This year, Goding documented stages including the opening team time trial in Barcelona, sprint stages, and a mountain finish in Orcières-Merlette. He noted a reduction in accredited in-race photography motos, from 18 before Covid to nine currently, leading smaller agencies to pool resources.
Goding also captured Tadej Pogacar's record-breaking climb on Alpe d'Huez. He described the tighter security on the Champs-Élysées for the final day, with officers stationed every few metres.
