Tom Pidcock is set to lead a formidable Great Britain squad at the Road World Championships in Montreal, which runs from 20 to 27 September. The Briton is considered a contender for the title, especially with reigning champion Tadej Pogacar sidelined due to a broken collarbone sustained at the Vuelta a Espana.
Pidcock, fresh from securing a second mountain bike cross-country world title, has also achieved two top-10 finishes in recent Canadian grand prix races held on similar terrain to the World Championships course. He will be joined by Oscar Onley, who recently won the best young rider classification at the Vuelta, and former Tour de France podium finisher Adam Yates.
Zoe Backstedt will head the elite women's squad following a breakthrough season that includes seven victories. The reigning under-23 world time trial champion is stepping up to senior level and is among the favourites for a win in her specialist discipline. Anna Morris, a multiple world champion on the track, will also make her debut at the road world championships in the time trial.
