Pilot seriously injured in Talgarth Airfield aircraft accident

A pilot sustained serious injuries after a Eurofox 2K aircraft lost control shortly after takeoff at Talgarth Airfield, Powys, in December 2025.

  • The tug aircraft rolled uncommanded to approximately 60° left wing down immediately after takeoff.
  • The glider disconnected and landed safely, but the tug aircraft subsequently lost control and struck the ground.
  • The gliding club has since improved weather reporting and begun work to enhance safety culture.

A pilot was seriously injured following an aircraft accident involving a Eurofox 2K (G-CMAX) at Talgarth Airfield, Powys, on 27 December 2025. The incident occurred during a glider-tug launch when the tug aircraft rolled uncommanded to approximately 60° left wing down shortly after takeoff.

The glider disconnected and landed safely ahead. However, the tug aircraft turned left, touched down within the airfield boundary, became airborne again, and then lost control before striking the ground in an adjacent field.

The wind at the time was fully across the runway and may have exceeded the aircraft's crosswind limit. Turbulence encountered during a preceding flight indicated unstable air over the runway, which is likely to have contributed to the initial roll and subsequent loss of control.

Following the accident, the gliding club improved its weather reporting system to provide more accessible and accurate wind measurements to pilots. Work has also commenced to enhance the safety culture at the club.
