A long-running legal dispute between gambling software firms Playtech and Evolution has intensified following the public release of a previously confidential report. Playtech claims the document, known as the Spectrum Report, proves its rival operated in banned markets.
The London-listed Playtech has been in a dispute with Swedish rival Evolution since 2020, when Playtech hired an intelligence firm to investigate its competitor. New proceedings in New Jersey have now forced the Spectrum Report, which was commissioned by Evolution, into the public domain.
Playtech stated that the report was able to "specifically corroborate" accusations that Evolution's games were played in banned locations, including Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates. The report also concluded that Evolution's compliance issues were "problematic" and placed the firm in a "precarious situation with law enforcement officials."
The Spectrum Report indicated that Evolution had "not taken any proactive steps" to ensure customer-facing operators comply with contract terms. It also noted that the Swedish firm had not "taken any remedial action since the allegations of wrongdoing surfaced to block those particular sites or jurisdictions or to enforce their contracts with their clients with the respect to this activity."
Evolution declined to comment on the court filings when they were published last night.
