The Prime Minister met President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv today, 24 August 2026, following a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing. The Prime Minister thanked President Zelenskyy for the welcome on his first visit.
Both leaders agreed their conversation during the Coalition of the Willing had been honest and productive. They stated that the international community needs to increase support for Ukraine to defend against Russia's attacks as winter approaches.
The Prime Minister reiterated the UK's steadfast support and the unity among coalition members. This was further demonstrated by the announcement that the UK has agreed to allow defence firm MBDA to release classified information regarding UK components for the long-range SCALP missile.
Discussions also covered the economic situation, with leaders addressing the need to collaborate with the insurance industry to bolster the resilience of Ukraine's critical infrastructure and businesses. Additionally, a new AI partnership between the UK and Ukraine was welcomed, which is expected to bring opportunities and potentially revolutionise aspects of public life in both nations.
