Mauricio Pochettino will continue as head coach of the US men’s national team through the 2030 World Cup after agreeing a contract extension with the US Soccer Federation. The agreement was announced on Monday, 3 August 2026.
Discussions for the extension had been ongoing for several months, predating the team's last-16 exit at this summer's World Cup. The federation had expressed a clear desire for Pochettino to stay.
Pochettino, who joined the US national team in 2024, is expected to receive a raise on his previous $6m per year salary. Billionaire hedge fund manager Ken Griffin, who funded Pochettino's initial contract, is understood to be the primary funder for this new deal.
Pochettino's role is characterised as an "expanded role," with his staff set to advise and support the federation on broader development areas within US soccer. He expressed excitement about bringing his experience to more areas of US Soccer and strengthening pathways for players and coaches.
Under Pochettino, the US achieved a record of 18 wins, 12 losses, and one draw. Highlights included a 4-1 victory over Paraguay in the 2026 World Cup group stage and a 5-1 friendly win against Uruguay.
