The Metropolitan Police are investigating alleged racial abuse directed at Swansea City's South Korea international Eom Jisung during their match against Millwall on Tuesday. The incident, reported by Swansea staff, occurred at The Den and led to a delay of approximately seven minutes in the second half of Swansea's 1-0 victory.
Swansea head coach Vitor Matos confirmed that winger Eom, 24, "feels supported" by the club. Matos described the incident as "sad for everyone, either in football or in society," and highlighted that the club used the tool of reporting the allegation to fight against such behaviour.
Matos praised Millwall officials for following protocol after the alleged abuse was reported. He expressed hope that the investigation will reach a conclusion, allowing Millwall to take appropriate action. This incident follows an earlier investigation by the Football Association of Ireland into alleged racial abuse aimed at Swansea forward Adam Idah last month during a Nations League fixture.
Eom, who was an unused substitute at Millwall, has been in strong form for Swansea this season and helped South Korea win the Asian Games recently. He is expected to be available for selection when Championship leaders Swansea host third-placed West Ham United on Saturday.
