The Metropolitan Police's cold case homicide team is making a final appeal for information in the disappearance of London estate agent Suzy Lamplugh, 40 years after she vanished. Detective Chief Inspector Teresa Foster, who leads the team, hopes new details could lead to the discovery of Lamplugh's body.
Ms Lamplugh, then 25, was last seen on 28 July 1986, after leaving her south-west London office for a client viewing with a 'Mr Kipper'. Her car was later found abandoned. She was legally declared dead in 1993, presumed abducted and murdered.
Police arrested John Cannan in 2000 as a prime suspect, but failed to gather enough evidence to charge him. A forensic review in 2024 did not unearth new DNA or fingerprints. Cannan died in prison in November 2024.
Detectives plan to follow up 30 potential witness leads over the next 12 months. If no useful information emerges, the case will be classified as inactive, meaning officers will only respond to new leads as they appear. The team remains hopeful that forensic advances or a change in allegiance from someone who knew Cannan could provide a breakthrough.
