Police have set up a task team to investigate the murders of nine women whose bodies have been discovered in the Kempton Park area, east of Johannesburg, since July. One of the victims, Elizabeth Moselakgomo, known as "Tsontso", went missing during a routine run.
Following the discoveries, police have urged women in the Kempton Park area to avoid walking or running alone, especially in isolated locations. Runners gathered in Centurion to honour Ms Moselakgomo and advocate for women's right to run freely. Nonhle Mpohlo stated, "This is for her - we just want to live and go running and come back home without having to think that it may be one of us."
In Cape Town, a vigil was held to honour the victims, with attendees calling on the government to take action.
