Post-mortems for five boys killed in M9 wrong-way crash

Post-mortem examinations are scheduled for five teenage boys who died in a head-on collision on the M9 motorway in County Kildare on Sunday.

Post-mortem examinations are to be carried out on the bodies of five teenage boys killed in a car crash in County Kildare. The collision happened when their car, travelling southbound on the northbound carriageway of the M9 motorway, collided head-on with another vehicle.

The incident occurred at about 03:00 local time on Sunday, between junction 3 and junction 4 of the M9, at Moone. Three women, two in their 30s and one in her 20s, along with a child from the second car, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Gardaí have confirmed that no police pursuit was underway before the collision. Forensic investigators have completed their examination of the scene. Gardaí have appealed for witnesses or anyone driving on that stretch of the motorway at the time to contact them.
