The Premier League 2026/27 season is set to commence on Friday 21 August, with reigning champions Arsenal hosting newly promoted Coventry City at 8pm. The fixture list for the opening month reveals a demanding schedule for several clubs, particularly those aiming to challenge for the title or establish themselves in the top flight.
Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta, will be keen to secure early points in their title defence, but face a challenging initial run. Following their opener against Frank Lampard’s Coventry City, they travel to Aston Villa, then host Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea at the Emirates. Subsequent away trips to Sunderland and Brighton and Hove Albion complete a rigorous first five matches for the Gunners.
For the promoted clubs, the start of the season is often crucial for building momentum. Coventry City, after their away debut against Arsenal, host fellow newcomers Hull City in a match that already appears vital for both sides. Their third fixture sees them travel to Manchester City, followed by a home game against Brighton and an away trip to Nottingham Forest, presenting a stern test of their Premier League credentials.
Hull City also face a tough introduction to the top tier. After hosting Manchester United in their second game, they are set to play Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Newcastle United within their first five fixtures. Another club facing a difficult start is Bournemouth, managed by new boss Marco Rose. Their opening five include challenging away trips to Manchester City and Newcastle United, alongside home matches against Everton and Liverpool, with a visit from Sunderland also on the cards.
In contrast, Liverpool appear to have a relatively steady start to their campaign. They begin with an away fixture against Newcastle United, followed by matches against Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town, Fulham, and an away trip to Bournemouth. While a Manchester derby between City and United is pencilled in for the weekend of 12 September, neither of the Manchester giants seems to have an overly daunting opening sequence of games.
All kick-off times and dates beyond the opening weekend are provisional and remain subject to alteration once broadcasting schedules are finalised.
