Premier League and EFL Transfer Deadline Day Approaches

Premier League and EFL clubs have until 23:00 BST on Tuesday, 1 September to complete their summer transfers. Other European leagues also face deadlines today.

  • Premier League and EFL clubs have until 23:00 BST on 1 September to finalise transfers.
  • A deal sheet must be submitted by Premier League clubs in the last two hours of the window to allow more time for paperwork.
  • Players who are free agents after the deadline can be signed at any point.

The summer transfer window is drawing to a close for Premier League and EFL clubs, with a deadline of 23:00 BST on Tuesday, 1 September. Other major European leagues also have deadlines today, including Ligue 1 at 18:59 BST, Serie A at 19:00 BST, and La Liga at 22:59 BST.

Clubs in the Premier League can use a deal sheet in the final two hours of the window to confirm an agreement and gain more time to submit remaining documentation. This sheet can be submitted from 21:00 BST and must be complete before the 23:00 deadline.

While the transfer window closes for registered players, free agents can still be signed at any point after the deadline. However, these players cannot immediately play for their new side unless there is space in the club's registered 25-man squad, and they must wait for the next registration period.

Potential late moves could include Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish reportedly returning to Everton on loan, with Iliman Ndiaye heading to City for £65m. Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has also been linked with a move to Manchester City, while Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez is of interest to Arsenal and Barcelona.

Why this matters: Transfer Deadline Day often sees significant player movements and can shape team rosters for the upcoming season.
