Premier League managers appointed this year face a significant risk of early departure, with Guardian analysis revealing that almost one in two new managers are fired before the end of the season. This trend is reflected in betting markets, where six of the eight managers deemed most likely to be next to leave their positions were appointed in 2026.
The rapid turnover of head coaches is a pervasive theme in the Premier League. Across the preceding decade, 25 managers who started a season as a new appointment did not complete that season. This high level of managerial change makes predictions challenging.
This season, 110 matches, representing 28.9% of the total, are scheduled to feature two managers who were appointed in 2026. For example, Liverpool's new manager, Andoni Iraola, will face new managers in his first six matches and in seven of the final 10 games.
