Premier League US Viewership Up 20% Among Young Adults After World Cup

Premier League viewership among US adults aged 18-34 has increased by 20% compared to last season, following the Fifa World Cup hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

  • Premier League viewership among US adults aged 18-34 is up 20% compared to last season.
  • Tottenham Hotspur's matches have featured in three of the top six Stateside broadcasts.
  • Football interest across North America is up by over a third, and Major League Soccer interest is up nearly 25%.

The Premier League has seen a significant boost in its US broadcast viewership, with the recent Fifa World Cup acting as a catalyst. Data from sponsorship analytics firm Nielsen Sports indicates that viewership among adults aged 18-34 has risen by 20% compared to the previous season.

Tottenham Hotspur's matches have proven particularly popular, featuring in three of the top six Stateside broadcasts. Their fixture against Newcastle United attracted over 1 million viewers, and their game against Brentford was the second most-watched match of the season so far.

Jon Stainer of Nielsen Sports noted that the World Cup expanded the Premier League's reach across a broader US demographic. He added that fandom is reaching record highs and expanding rapidly among younger, diverse audiences, carrying over into major domestic and international leagues.

The Premier League returns this Saturday with Arsenal hosting Leeds United, following the international break. Manchester City, who are appealing a recent verdict on finance-related charges, will play Liverpool on Sunday.

Why this matters: The increase in viewership and fan engagement in the US presents an opportunity for Premier League clubs to deepen loyalties and capitalise on the growing momentum of football in North America.
