The Princess Royal has been reunited with Barbara Rosen, a former Windsor groom who taught her to ride over 70 years ago. Ms Rosen, 94, began working at Windsor Castle in the 1950s when Princess Anne was three and King Charles was five.
The meeting occurred when Princess Anne visited The Nicky day centre in Crumpsall, as Manchester Jewish Community Care marked its 75th anniversary. Ms Rosen, who was the first female groom at Windsor Castle, recalled teaching the children to ride their ponies, William and Greensleeves.
During their reunion, Ms Rosen and the Princess Royal discussed people and places from their time at Windsor, looked at old photographs, and spoke about three-day eventing, in which the princess later competed. David Delew, chief executive of Manchester Jewish Community Care, stated the meeting was a highlight of the Royal visit.
The charity, established in 1951 as the Manchester Jewish Blind Society, now offers care, support, and community services. During her visit, Princess Anne also met members, staff, and volunteers, reviewed refurbishment plans for The Nicky, and unveiled a commemorative plaque.
