Pro Jank Footy, a new video game that offers a chaotic and humorous take on Australian rules football, is launching worldwide this week on all major consoles. The game, conceived by David Ashby, aims to make the sport even stranger through dynamic rule changes during gameplay.
Ashby, known for comedic spoofs such as Italian Spider-Man and Danger 5, developed the concept two years ago. The game introduces over 150 rule modifications, which can include opponents turning into seagulls, players becoming massive, or a labrador attempting to steal the ball. Other elements include meat pies with legs providing energy boosts and a Ford Falcon appearing on the grounds as a power-up.
Broden Kelly of Aunty Donna provided the commentary for Pro Jank Footy. The game's aesthetics are inspired by Ashby's childhood memories of 1990s footy, featuring cartoon mascots for its fictional teams. Ashby stated his intention for the game to be accessible and enjoyable for a wide audience, including as a couch co-op experience.
