Profound, a startup specialising in marketing software for AI search results, announced on Tuesday that it has raised $180 million in Series D funding. This latest investment values the company at $1.8 billion, coming less than seven months after its previous $96 million Series C round.

The Series D round was led by Sequoia and Kleiner Perkins. Existing investors, including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Khosla Ventures, and South Park Commons, also participated.

The company, launched two years ago, helps businesses understand how AI assists consumers in discovering brands and has expanded its services to include research and marketing strategy creation. Profound states its revenue has increased threefold in the past six months, and it now serves more than 1,000 enterprise customers, including Comcast, The Estée Lauder Companies, and Walmart.

Why this matters: The funding highlights continued investment in startups focused on generative engine optimization (GEO) and answer engine optimization (AEO), as businesses seek to enhance visibility within AI search systems.
