Nicola Close, a prominent figure in public health, has passed away at the age of 75 after a battle with cancer. She was known for her significant contributions as the chief executive of the Association of Directors of Public Health (ADPH).
Close began her tenure at ADPH in 2007 as its sole employee, transforming it into an influential organisation that now employs 19 people. Her leadership became particularly vital during the Covid-19 pandemic, where she worked to improve data sharing and establish regular meetings between directors of public health and UK chief medical officers.
In recognition of her services to public health, Nicola Close was made an MBE in 2025.
