Former boxer Prichard Colon has died at the age of 33, 11 years after he fell into a coma following a controversial loss.
Colon's father Richard announced the news on Facebook on Thursday, writing: "I regret to inform you of the passing of my son Prichard from this earthly world. Now he is in a better world."
Colon was 16-0 before his 2015 fight with Terrel Williams, in which he appeared to be struck in the back of the head with illegal punches. He was floored in the ninth round and later disqualified after confusion in his corner.
He was helped to his changing room, where he vomited and collapsed, and was later diagnosed with a subdural haematoma. After emergency surgery, he fell into a coma that lasted 221 days. He remained in a vegetative state and was cared for by his family until his passing.
