Range Rover has launched its first electric vehicle, a year later than initially planned. The new fully electric SUV has a starting price of £154,070.
The vehicle will be built at Jaguar Land Rover's (JLR) plant in Solihull, which has been the home of the marque since 1970. JLR, headquartered in Coventry, is owned by India’s Tata Motors.
JLR stated that 10,500 staff received extra training for the project, and the car underwent testing equivalent to 38 trips around the world. The company described the luxury vehicle, which can reach 60mph in 4.3 seconds, as heralding "a new era of enhanced refinement and capability."
Production in Solihull will be supported by the automaker’s propulsion manufacturing centre in Wolverhampton, which manufactures battery packs and electric drive units.
