A rare Star Wars Luke Skywalker action figure, released in 1977, is anticipated to achieve up to £20,000 at auction. The model, portraying Luke Skywalker as a farm boy, features a yellow double telescoping lightsaber.
Thornaby-based Vectis Auctions will sell the figure on 15 October, with bidding commencing at £9,000. The auctioneers stated that the figure is considered rare because the thinner inner blade of the lightsaber was fragile, expensive to produce, and posed a potential safety risk to children, leading to its quick replacement with a single lightsaber.
Only two other vintage Star Wars figures, Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi and Darth Vader, produced by Kenner, also featured the double telescoping lightsaber. Vectis noted that the Luke Skywalker figure was originally obtained from the family of a General Mills employee involved in early-bird promotional mail orders for the movie.
