Marcus Rashford returned to action for Manchester United today, making his first appearance since December 2024, as Michael Carrick's side concluded their pre-season campaign with a 4-2 defeat against AC Milan in Poland.

Rashford, who had been on loan at Aston Villa and Barcelona, was introduced as one of six substitutes an hour into the match. His return saw a positive reception from United supporters.

Despite taking the lead twice, United ultimately fell to a 4-2 loss against a Milan side led by former United boss Ruben Amorim. Patrick Dorgu and Harry Maguire were on the scoresheet for United.

Manager Michael Carrick expressed disappointment, telling MUTV, "We didn't play very well. There are no excuses." The team's Premier League opener is scheduled for next Saturday against promoted Hull City.

Other players making their first pre-season appearances included Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martinez. Captain Bruno Fernandes and Youri Tielemans played the full 90 minutes. Mason Mount, however, has been sidelined for almost three full games with a foot issue initially dismissed as a precaution.

Why this matters: The match was Manchester United's final pre-season fixture before their Premier League campaign begins, offering insights into the squad and potential issues.
