A former student accommodation manager, Helen Barney from Mumbles, Swansea, recounted an experience from the 1990s where a mother was distressed her son had not been allocated catered halls because "He can't cook."
Another reader, Jan May from Deal, Kent, shared that her son went to university 28 years ago with cooking skills. He reportedly became the designated chef for his flatmates after preparing a bolognese sauce for eight, meaning he did not need to buy food or do washing up in his first year.
Separately, Penny Kay from Lancaster discussed the use of location-tracking apps. She stated that while she promised her adult children she would only check their whereabouts in emergencies, she now finds herself checking which supermarket they have visited to ask them to pick up ingredients.
