Students across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland received their A-level, Btec, and T-level results today, Thursday 13 August 2026, after weeks of anticipation. This year marks a record number of 18-year-olds accepted into university, with more securing places at their firm choice institutions.

Among those celebrating was Emily from Hartlepool, who achieved an A*, A, and B. She plans to pursue a degree apprenticeship to become a solicitor, a route she chose for the experience given the current job market.

Anastasiia Sochka, a Ukrainian refugee who moved to Hartlepool in summer 2022, achieved an A* in Russian, an A in psychology, and a B in sociology. She is heading to Newcastle University with aspirations of becoming a social worker, hoping to assist those affected by the war in Ukraine.

T-levels, vocational qualifications for 16-19-year-olds in England, have seen increased popularity. Nick Basher, 19, earned a merit in his T-level in digital production design and development and has secured a full-time job in a solicitors' IT department.

Why this matters: The record number of 18-year-olds accepted into university highlights a significant trend in higher education admissions.

What this means for you: If your results did not go as planned, you may still be accepted onto a university or college course, or you could explore the clearing process or resitting exams.
