Chelsea captain Reece James has been ruled out of England's autumn international camp due to an injury, leading to his exclusion from the national squad.

  • Reece James has suffered an injury and will miss England's autumn international camp.
  • Trent Alexander-Arnold has been recalled to the England squad, alongside Tino Livramento.
  • England will begin their 2026/27 Nations League campaign with matches against Spain, Czechia, and Croatia.

Chelsea captain Reece James has been sidelined by an injury, ruling him out of England’s autumn international camp. James was absent from Chelsea training this week, and manager Xabi Alonso declined to comment on his fitness ahead of Friday evening's match against Brentford.

It is considered unlikely that James will participate in the game at the Gtech Stadium. His absence from the national squad has led to a recall for Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Tino Livramento, who had a calf injury, has also been included in the 27-man selection.

This squad marks the beginning of England’s 2026/27 Nations League campaign. The Three Lions are in League 1, Group C, alongside world champions Spain, Croatia, and Czechia. England is set to host Spain at Wembley on 26 September, followed by away fixtures against Czechia on 29 September and Croatia on 3 October. The international break concludes on 6 October with a return fixture against Czechia at Wembley.

Why this matters: The absence of Chelsea captain Reece James from the England squad due to injury could impact the team's defensive strategy for the upcoming Nations League matches.
