Reform UK has announced two record-breaking donations totalling £72 million this weekend. These contributions add to the £30.5 million the party had already raised since the beginning of the year.
The party stated that the new funds will be used to recruit policy experts and up to 400 campaign managers across target seats nationwide.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham is likely to face increased pressure to further amend party donation rules following these donations. Labour is already planning to cap donations from British citizens living overseas. Angela Rayner, when interviewed by the BBC, did not confirm if this would affect donations from cryptocurrency billionaires Christopher Harborne and Ben Delo to Reform.
The Liberal Democrats and Greens have also called for a cap on donations from individuals based in Britain. Mr Burnham has indicated he is open to discussions on this, and Ms Rayner confirmed this morning that ministers are still considering the matter. The Electoral Commission is also reviewing potential actions in this area.
