Residents in Reigate are concerned that a child could be seriously injured at a junction hit by repeated crashes unless safety improvements are made. The junction of Chart Lane, Waterlow Road and Belmont Road has seen five serious crashes since the start of 2025, according to the East Surrey Liberal Democrats.
Councillor Mike Robinson, who initiated a petition for a formal safety review, stated that four people have been hospitalised following collisions at the junction in recent months. Residents, including Paul Hildreth, have reported cars crashing into walls near their homes.
Campaigners suggest that excessive speed, inadequate signage, and poor sight lines contribute to dangerous conditions. They also noted that the road has become busier due to the growth of local schools and warned that the situation is likely to worsen. Proposed measures include traffic calming, improved sight lines, and better signage.
Surrey County Council has indicated that the petition will be carefully considered once submitted, and a formal response will be provided in due course.
