Richard Hughes has officially departed from his role as sporting director at Liverpool, concluding a two-year period that saw the club invest £670m in player acquisitions. The Scot, who was also instrumental in the appointment of head coach Arne Slot, is now set to join Saudi club Al Hilal.
Hughes' time at Anfield involved a significant squad revamp, with the team now under the guidance of Andoni Iraola. The recent arrival of Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain marked the third signing with a fee exceeding £110m. However, many of the 16 players signed during Hughes' tenure are yet to make a substantial impact.
Notable signings include Alexander Isak from Newcastle for £125m and Florian Wirtz from Leverkusen for £116m, both arriving in the 2025/26 season. Other significant arrivals include Giorgi Mamardashvili (£29m) and Federico Chiesa (£12.5m) in 2024/25, and Jeremy Jacquet (£60m) and Victor Munoz (£35m) in the current 2026/27 season.
