Richard O'Sullivan, the actor who began his career as a child and became a prominent figure in 1970s and 80s television, has died at 82. He was known for playing youthful characters in hit ITV comedies.
Between 1972 and 1981, O'Sullivan appeared in more than 100 episodes of peak-time ITV comedies. His roles included Dr Lawrence Bingham in 'Doctor in Charge' and the career-defining character of Robin Tripp in 'Man About the House' and its spin-off, 'Robin's Nest'.
Later in his career, O'Sullivan faced the challenge of moving beyond youthful roles. His final screen credit was in 1996, and his career was curtailed by declining health, including a stroke in 2002. He was subsequently cared for at Brinsworth House entertainers’ retirement home in London.
