Amazon's doorbell camera maker, Ring, is preparing to launch its Neighbours community app in the UK on 21 October. The service is intended to function as a modern community message board, allowing neighbours to post about safety, community issues, or lost pets.
The app will be available free of charge within the existing Ring app for UK users and can be utilised by anyone, even those who do not own a Ring product. Users will set their address and a radius of between 0.1 and five miles to join their local community.
Certain features available in the US version of Neighbours, such as Neighbours Verified and Community Requests, will not be immediately available in the UK. These features, which allow entities like the fire brigade or police to post messages or request camera footage, are being developed for a later release in the UK, at the earliest towards the end of this year.
The UK launch will include basic anonymised posting categorised under strict guidelines that prohibit illegal content, discrimination, and speculation. Posts will be moderated by both AI and humans before and after publication. A feature called “Search Party for Dogs” will also be available, allowing users to post images of lost dogs and enabling Ring camera owners with cloud subscriptions to opt-in to help locate them.
