Millions of London commuters face fresh travel chaos after the RMT union announced two new Tube strike dates that will shut down the entire Underground network.
Rail workers will walk out on Monday 29th July and Saturday 3rd August as their dispute over jobs, pensions and working conditions escalates. The strikes threaten to cripple transport across the capital during peak summer tourist season.
The RMT says its members are fighting proposals that would cut jobs, slash pension benefits and worsen safety standards across the network. Previous strikes have forced widespread line closures, leaving only skeleton services running during rush hours.
Transport for London expressed disappointment at the announcement and urged union leaders to return to talks. TfL has yet to release details of which services might continue running, but past industrial action has left commuters stranded with severely limited options.
The long-running dispute centres on TfL's cost-cutting plans, which the union claims would devastate working conditions and compromise passenger safety. RMT officials insist they want a fair deal that protects members' livelihoods whilst maintaining Underground standards.
Passengers should check TfL's website and social media before travelling on strike days. Buses, cycling and walking routes will face massive pressure as millions seek alternative ways to move around the city.
The timing adds further strain to London's transport network during its busiest tourist period. Businesses across the capital are bracing for significant disruption as the strikes threaten to paralyse daily life for workers, visitors and residents alike.
