People are being advised to avoid swimming in the sea after lifeguard patrols finish in the early evening, particularly during Wednesday evening's partial solar eclipse.
RNLI Jersey stated that its patrols conclude at 18:00 BST. According to Jersey Met, an increase in swell and large pushing tides is expected during the eclipse, with temperatures forecast to reach 35C (95F).
The rescue service anticipates many islanders will head to the west coast on Wednesday evening to view the partial eclipse, which is expected to begin at 18:21, peak at 19:17, and conclude at 20:10. The RNLI noted that St Ouen's Bay, a potential viewing spot, can have strong rip currents.
Islanders are also reminded not to look directly at the eclipse without appropriate glasses. The charity advises those in trouble in the ocean to use the 'float to live' technique, and to call 999 for Jersey Coastguard if witnessing someone in distress.
