Rob Reiner has been awarded a posthumous Emmy for his performance in The Bear, nine months after his death. The win for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy was announced on Sunday night at the ceremony formerly known as the Creative Arts Emmys.
This achievement breaks a record previously held by his father, Carl Reiner, in the same category. Reiner's win also marks the longest gap between acting wins in Emmy history, coming 48 years after his last acting Emmy in 1978.
The ceremony saw other notable wins, with Apple TV horror comedy Widow’s Bay securing eight Emmys, including Betty Gilpin for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy. HBO medical drama The Pitt received four awards, and DTF St Louis won six in the limited series categories, with David Harbour and Linda Cardellini earning their first Emmys.
The awards event, now rebranded as the first two nights of the 78th Emmy Awards, precedes the main ceremony and telecast scheduled for 14 September.
