Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has declared he would not be comfortable accepting another Premier League winner's medal, even if Manchester City are stripped of their titles. City is allegedly found guilty of most of the 115 charges against them for breaking the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play rules, leading to questions about their trophies from 2009 to 2018.
If City's titles are revoked, Manchester United could potentially be awarded the 2011-12 Premier League crown, which they lost to City on the final day of the season. However, Rooney, who won five Premier League titles with United, expressed on the Stick To United podcast that he doesn't believe his team deserved it.
“I wouldn’t really feel comfortable accepting another Premier League medal, if I’m being honest,” Rooney said. “I don’t think we deserve it, we didn’t do enough that season to win the league. I think we were six or seven points clear with four or five games to go and we threw it away.”
While some former United players from that squad, including Rio Ferdinand and David de Gea, have publicly called for the trophy to be added to their collection, Rooney maintains his stance. He added, “Should they get it stripped for what the owners have done? Yeah maybe, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable accepting it.”
