A Russian strike has hit a train near the Ukraine-Poland border, shortly after former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other top European officials had travelled through the area. The strike hit the train's engine, but no casualties were reported.
Johnson and senior European security advisers, including the UK's Jonathan Powell, had used the same railway line returning from a conference in Kyiv. Russia stated on Sunday that it struck "railway infrastructure" in western Ukraine.
Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported that a Russian drone struck 800m from the Polish border. Former Prime Minister Johnson questioned the logic of the strike, asking, "When are we going to give them the air defences they need?"
Russia has conducted numerous attacks on Ukraine's railway infrastructure in recent months. These attacks have significantly damaged Ukraine's extensive train network, which serves as the primary mode of transport for millions of Ukrainians since air travel was suspended in 2022.
