Ryan Gosling is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ghost Rider, according to reports from San Diego Comic-Con last week. The new film will be directed by Shawn Levy, known for his work on Deadpool & Wolverine.
Gosling has reportedly expressed interest in playing Ghost Rider for several years. He is said to have approached Marvel president Kevin Feige with his own vision for the character, drawing inspiration from specific comic book storylines.
The character of Ghost Rider, a stunt motorcyclist named Johnny Blaze who gains supernatural powers, has previously been portrayed in two films starring Nicolas Cage. These earlier adaptations are described as having little cinematic inheritance for Gosling to contend with.
