The Smashing Pumpkins held a pre-Lollapalooza concert at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago on Wednesday, July 29. The show saw the band welcome two special guests to the stage.
Former bassist Melissa Auf der Maur reunited with the band to close the set with a performance of 'The Everlasting Gaze'. This reunion follows a previous performance together in Montreal just over a year ago, which was their first since 2000.
Actor Barry Williams, best known for his role as Greg Brady in 'The Brady Bunch', also joined the band. He performed a cover of 'It’s a Sunshine Day' with frontman Billy Corgan, a song originally sung by the Brady kids on the classic sitcom. This collaboration came after Williams appeared on Corgan’s podcast earlier this year.
The setlist included fan favourites such as '1979' and 'Bullet With Butterfly Wings', alongside deeper cuts. The band performed 'War Dreams of Itself' live for the first time ever, and 'Dorian' for the first time since 2015.
