Salisbury's Sally Kidson, a European boccia champion, is seeking a ramp operator to partner her in the sport. Kidson, who is currently ranked fifth in the world in her category, stated that finding the right person is "absolutely critical" for her to compete, including with a view to the 2028 LA Paralympics.
Boccia is a sport where players direct coloured balls towards a white ball. For athletes unable to throw or kick, a ramp is used, which requires an operator to position it according to the athlete's instructions.
Kidson's coach, Rikki Bingham, explained that the ramp operator is classified as an athlete and also receives medals. The operator's role involves training with Kidson multiple times a week, maintaining equipment, and analysing tactics from previous matches. Expressions of interest are being sought by 12 October, with an eagerness to learn and contribute ideas being key requirements.
