Sam Curran Ruled Out for Summer; England Lead Pakistan in First Test

Sam Curran will miss the remainder of the English summer due to a groin injury requiring surgery, while England holds a strong lead in the first Test against Pakistan.

  • Sam Curran has been ruled out of the rest of the English summer with a groin injury.
  • England closed day two of the first Test against Pakistan on 366 for eight, extending their first-innings lead to 195.
  • Jordan Cox, Harry Brook, Joe Root, and Dan Lawrence all scored half-centuries for England.

All-rounder Sam Curran will miss the rest of the English summer after being ruled out with a groin injury. Curran, who was not in the squad for the first two Tests against Pakistan due to fitness concerns, is set to undergo surgery on Friday.

This injury sidelines him for the third Test against Pakistan, which begins on September 9 at Edgbaston, and the white-ball series against Sri Lanka later that month. Curran has not played Test cricket since August 2021.

Meanwhile, England maintained control of the first Test against Pakistan in Leeds, closing day two on 366 for eight. This extends their first-innings lead to 195 runs. Harry Brook top-scored with 91, while Jordan Cox, Joe Root, and Dan Lawrence also contributed half-centuries, scoring 73, 66, and 51 respectively.

Despite four half-centurions, no England player reached three figures, a point of regret for Jordan Cox. Pakistan's left-arm spinner Ali Usman was a bright spot for his team, taking five for 92.
