Saudi Pro League unveils new streaming model for player revenue

The Saudi Pro League has launched a new initiative allowing players and content creators to earn revenue by sharing links to matches.

  • Players and content creators can share links to Pro League matches and receive a share of the income.
  • The UK and Ireland are among 16 territories where the shared content can be viewed.
  • Selected publishers can also host official Pro League broadcasts directly on their platforms.

The Saudi Pro League has introduced a new scheme designed to allow its stars, including Cristiano Ronaldo, to monetise their social media presence. Under the 'Share and Earn' initiative, players and content creators can share links to individual matches or game bundles on their channels, earning a share of the generated income.

This new model could be particularly profitable for Ronaldo, who boasts over one billion followers across various social platforms. Anyone clicking a shared link will be directed to a league-owned streaming service.

Additionally, selected publishers will be permitted to host official Pro League live and on-demand broadcasts directly on their own platforms, subject to league authorisation. This approach is similar to the Bundesliga's UK partnerships with figures like YouTuber Mark Goldbridge.

The United Kingdom and Ireland are among 16 territories where this shared content will be accessible, alongside countries including Canada, New Zealand, and South Korea.

Why this matters: The initiative aims to connect the league with international fans and create new revenue streams for players and partners.

What this means for you: You may be able to access Saudi Pro League content shared by players and content creators in the UK and Ireland.
