Sebastian Stan has addressed what he called the "naive" labelling of his new film, 'Fjord', as "conservative." Stan stars alongside Renate Reinsve in the Palme D'Or-winning movie, directed by Cristian Mungiu.
The film follows a Christian couple and their five children who immigrate from Romania to Norway. The family's traditional beliefs lead to clashes with the initially welcoming progressive local community as their values face scrutiny.
Speaking to The Independent, Stan commented on the film's potential resonance with international audiences. He stated, "Families are being torn apart all over the world. I think it's very limiting and sort of naive when the film gets labelled as this word ‘conservative’, because it's so much more than that." He further added, "This idea about immigrants coming to a different country, having a set of values... We want to respect their culture and their history, but at the same time, we want them to not be different and fit in and be the same. Guess what? It's not one or the other.”
