Jongno 3-ga, a historic district in Seoul, has been named the world’s coolest neighbourhood for 2026. The area is recognised for its traditional architecture, independent businesses, and late-night food stalls.
The ranking is an annual assessment by Time Out, based on nominations from its global network of local experts and evaluated by a panel of editors. Criteria include food and drink, nightlife, unique local businesses, liveability, and community.
Following Jongno 3-ga, which was previously ranked third in 2021, were L’Ocean District in Rabat and Neos Kosmos in Athens. Chinatown in Los Angeles and Govanhill in Glasgow completed the top five. Tokyo's Jinbōchō district, which held the top spot in 2025, lost its position this year.
Jongno 3-ga is located in the heart of Seoul, featuring narrow lanes with traditional hanok houses alongside cafés, restaurants, craft shops, and bars. The district is also known for its pojangmacha, or tented street stalls, which serve inexpensive food and drinks after dark.
