This volume of rainfall, combined with slow-moving thunderstorms, significantly increases the risk of surface water flooding. Although wind speeds are expected to remain light, gusty conditions could accompany the storms, particularly during intense rainfall.
The Midlands, South West, and North West regions in England, as well as Wales and Northern Ireland, will bear the brunt of Monday's weather chaos. Scotland appears to escape the worst of it for now, but scattered showers are still possible. Temperatures across the UK will remain relatively warm on Monday, ranging from 18°C to 22°C in most affected areas – a perfect recipe for intense thundery showers.
The Met Office warns that lightning strikes, hail, and strong winds could accompany the heaviest downpours, posing additional hazards. Emergency services advise checking local flood alerts, avoiding unnecessary travel during peak rainfall, and being aware of driving conditions. Motorists should prepare for sudden reductions in visibility and standing water on roads.
Homeowners in flood-prone areas are encouraged to take preventative measures where possible. The yellow warning remains in place throughout Monday, with conditions expected to ease into Tuesday.
